Thralls of Winter

Made this over thanksgiving break starring the little brother. I posted the song by Siriusmo a few weeks ago. Watch it (full screen?), download the song, enjoy, prosper etc.

Jesus was french and a disco maniac

Not quite out of the deep and dark woods of paper writing. Struggling. But my savior Breakbot is helping to guide me through...

¡¡¿¿WHAT DOESN'T BREAKBOT DO??!!
Help him help you. Obviously everyone loves Baby, I'm Yours. Easily one of my top 10 from '10. I'm on that songs fucking nuts. But now there are a few new pair of nuts on which i've hopped on recently in the form of the coveted Breakbot remix. Before you scoff, understand i didn't know any of these originals either, here's a hint: you don't gotta!!

FIRST: HE DOES MATTY DEAR!!

This one has really grown on me. But I guess that just doesn't really make sense because it was this good in the first place?

>For those who have yet to be acquainted to Matthew Dear:

SECOND: HE DOES IT ON THE PLANE!

And returns the favor nicely. Nice little pop to this one.

THIRD: HE DOES A THING FOR YOU!

Gottasay, I like this better than the orig. Gave a little extra oompf to the vocals. But the video is still pretty bad ass.

Please take it upon yourself to listen and enjoy. Good luck and we'll meet soon. Amen.

Escapar

Is it sad that currently, the moment of my day i look forward to most be when i get to slip my socks off underneath my covers before i fall asleep? In the midst of finals induced despair, I would argue no fucking way.

La Paz

Pitchfork fed my need for a medium of procrastination and conveniently recently put up their Top 50 albums/100 songs of 2010. Definitely worth checking out. Many a song I have yet post. Coming in at #1 song was Round and Round by Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. Although I think spot 1 is a little ambitious, I definitely would have put the whole album (which I got for free somewhere last spring) somewhere around there...
magdalenalong.com
Whole album's worth checking out but I keep a special place for these two tracks, both of which i actually was going to use in a short film over the summer that never materialized... typical. Great chillwave 60s retro vibe (whatever the fuck that means). Enjoy.

Folk and Dog Afternoon

Angus, Julia, their Dog:

(SO GOOD) Been meaning to post this song since last spring. For all the lovers out there, an astoundingly well made song-- great harmonizing vocals and hook. Kicks into things so nicely with drums and string accompaniment. The tune from the talented (and pretty attractive) Australian sister/brother duet should warm everyone's cold ass day up...

Download: Angus & Julia Stone- Big Jet Plane

DR. DOG:

Pretty easy to fall in love with these guys out of Philly (if you haven't likely already). Another couple tracks I've been meaning to put up since spring but  sometimes these themes just fall in my lap. Just a couple of my favorites...

Download: Dr. Dog- Ain't It Strange
Download: Dr. Dog- Heart It Races

Another song, another dog photo:

Another well-crafted song that goes nicely with the mix (besides the photo). Listened to it most of the summer but it definitely sounds more pertinent now in the winter
(Listen to it here) (if you don't trust me)
Download: Romany Rye- All the Boys

Also will take this opportunity to announce I just found out Snoop Dogg will in fact be in Madison on Feb. 1st as part of the Get Wet Tour. Any takers?

Aaaaand lastly, I couldn't help myself...

THNXGVNG LFTOVRS

damn see that cool way I spelled those? suuper indie. Here's the deal, if you thought the break was over, the feast isn't. Here are the leftovers and I got LOTS OF 'EM!!!

I haven't done up a big post in a while so I thought I'd bloat you guys up with some hits. Anyone who's ever driven with me in the civic since sophomore year knows I live for the making of mixes to blast in that biiitch. So, naturally, a mix over break was made and here are the highlights that I'm quite thankful for...

>TURKEY
Amelia Ahl

I've been a Pretty Lights fan for a while (still embarrassingly haven't been to a show yet though)(still waiting on Barth to take me and do it up right). This simple song is one of the the earlier EPs he put out, popped up on here recently came up on here. Thank you for that, and thank you, pretty lights, for that vocal sample...

Download: Pretty Lights- Finally Moving.

>MASHPOTATOES

I was thinking about putting a mash up here but I resisted. Great great groove on this song. Really break it down nicely with the high hats at :55 and the vocals on the chorus. Will definitely be keeping my eye on these guys...

Download: Family Of The Year- Psyche Or Like Scope

>ENSALADA
Art Basel

Siriusmo, I need some electronic in the mix and what can i say? You kill it with this one. Volume to 40 (max) in the civic. A lot of remix potential too. Which reminds me he actually also did up a pretty solid Breakbot remix a while ago worth checking out.

>MORE TURKEY(sandwiches)

Probably my favorite on the list right now, I don't remember how these guys' free EP ended up on my recently added but I'm very thankful it did. Amazing sound on this song-- chillwave type sample usage with a 60s feel to the vocals. The horn sample in the breakdown caught me completely off guard in the best way possible.

>DAD'S NICE BEER

I haven't put up any hip hop in ages but this I love Zion I and this collaboration with the raggae band, Rebelution is more than post worthy. It's from a little while ago but no doubt some of the best I've heard from them. Nothing like some good ol' raggae hip hop fusion. This hook really hits home.

Download: Zion I- Many Stylez ft. Rebelution

>WINE

This one's real real nice. And I'm talking reeal nice. Great beat. Great vocals. I personally immediately fell in love with it after the synthpoppy breakdown at :45... Enjoy.

Download: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs- Garden

>MAMA'S APPLE CRISP
BRLSQ
I put another hit from these New Zealanders in a post a while ago but feel the need to put this one up as well. This front lady's got a great voice and a poppy chorus really sticks to match...

Download: The Naked And Famous- Punching In A Dream

>MY CHEAP BEER AND TRIPTOPHAN

Just also wanted to let everyone know that THIS POST aka one of the better posts i've done in a while has had its links fixed soooo go and download them beats.

Hopes that tides you over. If not, maybe this will. Stay tuned next time for my dubbiest dubstep. ciao.

in the AM

As the clock tics and tocs closer to 6am and i wonder where the hell the last five hours went/why they were there in the first place, I thought I would at least drop a post to have something to show for this gross abuse of time.

So, continuing on this arcade fire theme, I recently came about their new music video for their title track, directed by Spike Jonze. Jonzey really hit it on the nose (is that an expression?) with this one, definitely one of the most on point vids I've seen in a minute. Only intended watching about 30 seconds of it and couldn't help but stay tuned for all 6 minutes... kind of like a metaphor for my night

And yes. This is NEW, folks. Suck it, manny (:

Download: Arcade Fire- The Suburbs

Fuck, it's 6:02. Time to resort to drugs and/or listening to Tallest Man on Earth...

win some lose some

Sooo it was pointed out to me by my pretentious fuck friend that I guess that arcade fire vid wasn't any sort of new. But in other news I guess there IS a new kanye album potentially coming out. Word.

It's in the computer

PART 1:

(Download: Arcade Fire- We Used To Wait)

I won't try and explain it. Bobby showed it to me today and my mind has been since blown. Just plug in your address and let whatever the fuck technology this is do it's thing.

AND here's another old lesser known Arcade song I love that I've meant to post since forevurr:

Download: Arcade Fire- Headlights Look Like Diamonds (this honestly has movie trailer written all over it)

PART 2:
STUDY WITH WOLFGANG---> RAGE WIF WOLFGANG

Considering I was up until 6 in the morning last night writing a paper listening to ol' man Mozart's station on pandora... it seems only appropriate that this be my anthem tonight for some FAR overdue shenanigans...

Download: Wolfgang Gartner- 5th Symphony (FIRE!!)

P.S.
Still no fucking phone. Still steady up on that free online texting at "textem.net"... Get on my level.

Eyo listen the fuck up: the homeboy and brother at arms, DJ Clavé just got a gig at the KK, wednesday nights at 11. Tonight is noche numero uno so go down and crunk your face.

Or, if you're like me and you will be in the library tonight writing a history of modern latin america paper instead, or perhaps don't even live in madison.....

DON'T FRET! because here's one of his stellar mixes so you can party vicariously:

Also, if like me you're in  desperate need of procrastination, there's this...

Blame goes to Joey Riz on that one. Self-proclaimed king of the cat videos.

Homegrown Perm

(AUDIOPERM)
Straight to you, from me, from the homegrown talent, Audioperm. A MPLS crew of producers on the come-to-the-up. Consists of Taylor Madrigal, Julian Fairbanks, and Cory Grindberg. Every wednesday they do up "Permed Out Wednesdays" sooo.... figure your shit out and hop on the perm train.

This latest track definitely caught my attention. Great beat with a stacked line of MCs. Whole thing's got a sick People Under The Stairs / All Natural vibe, aka what I needed. I'm sure the first of more songs to be posted. Enjoy, fuckers.

And tonight? See you at Day Glow. Whooops...

Pogo Loco

New Pogo errbody!
After a hiatus professionally producing for Walt Disney Studios he drops a brand new Snow White remix. If you haven't seen em, here's his other 2 of my favorite hits using Hook (fucking love that movie), and Up. What a guy...

Source

Sorry for my own blogging hiatus. I was not actually producing for Disney but taking cover from an academic shit storm. And then of course the weekends. But now it turns out to be shorts weather in november and I'm going outside. Find your own links (:

P.S.
Happy 17th birthday to my hermano, Joseph Charles Thizzberg, and the big 2-1 to Spenny G

Dichotomy

BARBRA:
Loving all the atención my man A-trak and the Duck Sauce crew are getting off the new single. Almost more than the song I'm absolutely loving the video they put together and everyone involved. Easily the coolest thing I've seen in a while... sorry, kan.

Download: Duck Sauce- Barbra Steisand

VS. BONEY:
Who the fuck? It just so happened the loops Duck Sauce grabbed the generous portion of loopage from the group Boney M's 1979 single Gotta Go Home (originally Nighttrain by Hallo Bimmelbahn). I'm almost likeee: thank you Duck Sauce for using Gotta Go Home... so I could find and play it instead:

Have a fabulous halloween weekend. If you'll be in the madison parts (I don't know why you wouldn't be?) get at meeeeeeh.....

Prime cuts of beat (LINKS FIXED!!)

I have just too many songs i want to post. Too many videos, stories... So I find that I end up posting none of them. Hmmm... this is honestly the absolute last thing i should be doing buuuut....

who gives a fuck
Let's get back to the rawness, or rather, the rareness... with my current 5 primest cuts of beat (ha!)
(I don't want to quantify an order for these because they're all sickk..... as mad cow)

RARE:
Honestly my go to banger since sophomore year in the civic. Original sample by the one and only Horace Andy (props on the dig, Daniel Gabriel).  Nostalgia aside, I honestly can't give this one enough praise...

Download: Ayatollah- Kingston

MEDIUM RARE:
One of the most finely chopped piece of beat I've heard since Shine Blockas. Great vibe.

Download: Teams vs. Star Slinger- Close to Me

WELL DONE:
lazenby
Just give this one 55 seconds. Then go get the whole EP.

OVER EASY:

This dude's insane. Been meaning to post this since last spring. Reminds me of a 90s movie soundtrack, vocal sample pops off halfway through. May or may not have to put your respect for me on the line and say listen to this when you're super duper blazed. There.. I said it.

OVER MEDIUM:
Really, really so very fond of this. Keeps changing and building throughout the entire song. Definitely sit back and let this one play through.

Download: Röyksopp- This Space

OKAY..
Two midterms wednesday. One on thursday. See you on the other side...

hipster spasms

GOOD!
This one's kind of cliche but nevertheless pretty captivating and well shot. Made so much more legit when you realize the band and all the kids in this are from New Zealand. And I guess this song is #1 over there.

Download: The Naked And Famous- Young Blood

¡BETTER!
Very similar but this one blewmymiind... not only because there are excessively more tits. No, I find it more creative, bordering on supernatural hipster status. Almost like my supernatural experience friday in the May Kellogg room of my house, the room where the maid May Kellogg hung herself many years ago. Ask me about it sometime. This is right off the Spaniard, El Guincho's new album: Pop Negro. Thank Frances for the find via Barcelona.  Fucker.

Download: El Guincho- Bombay

Okay off to the library. Go packers. Siiike.

(skydiving theme)

UNO: LAID BACK

I downloaded this song a while ago and have since banged it frequently. Then I found out two things:
1. It was made in 1989
2. It's got a pretty epic music video...

Download: Laid back- Bakerman

>DOS: WHITE FRIENDS

God, I could just go on and on about this song. I gotta hand it to Poppi, he takes hanging out with white people to a whole new and extreme level. Either that, or I just need to hang out with some new white people...

It is honestly so hard not to bust out laughing when dude jumps off that plane. Thanks Gabe, for the post.

big ol' schmorgisborg

Despite having lived it up to quite the extent the last month, I am now officially getting shit on academically. Hence, the lack of posts recently. But hey, here's a pile of goodies I've been meaning to post for your enjoyment. Get at meh

One: Step aside, Stripes
This song is a monster of a White Stripes cover from the new french wonder Ben l'Oncle Soul. Does this one up sooo so right. Evan said it's like Maroon 5. But he's a pessimist.

Two: He's free, rejoice

Although the new Kanye's gotten all the hype, my mane Gucci couldn't have given me a better reason to celebrate a comeback. Neptunes got off on his newest track. And Diplo drops fire on this remix, one of my favorites from this banger of a mixtape (thanks berhe furr the link).

Three: A couple for the sucka MCs..
I could do a whole post on 9th. But htese are 2 of my favorite straight beats from the master crafter. Been banging these since sophomore year in the civic. Flips the samples like only 9th could (billy paul and marlena shaw respectively). People have rapped over these but sometimes you only need the rawness. Then again, sometimes 9th needs a new snare...

Four: Whistle while you work...
4A: (Anything for an unnecessary theme riight?) I played this everyday at work over the summer. Very well put together track, will be in your head for a while be wary. One of the best from the summer... remember the summer?

4B:

(these numbers are getting pretty arbitrary, and apparently so are the photos) Aysha showed me this one. Couldn't help but put it in the set. Straight from lead frenchman RV Salters.. fuck i could have done a french theme with Ben l'Oncle Soul....

4C.
More whistlin' fun! I just remembered this one. Nice little diddy by the brooklyn based indie poppers. Another summer fav that's good for a good mood.

Okay, fuck you back to homework.
