My Last MFK Post

Well, it's been a pleasure, folks. I guess this news is only relevant to those of you who have still stuck around, but I wanted to get this message out there regardless. Let's just say a turbulent past couple of months in combination with a dwindling lack of motivation hasn't been conducive to any ideal consistency or quality. AND I'm getting my mole removed. Just kidding. No, it would appear that a blog is too much responsibility for one man... Or, perhaps... just too much power... Just kidding. Oh, and blogspot fucking blows and has been the source of endless frustration.

I'm taking a little time off and getting some other projects going. If all goes well, I will be back on the blogosphere circa early this summer. In collaboration with Malcolm Kerr aka DJ Dana Sauce (who has contributed to MFK in the past) and others, we'll be getting up the music/culture blog, Quarter Life Crisis (qlifecrisis.com). AKA the pheonix will rise from the ashes. I'll let you know via facebook or twitter @molefacekillah

Before I sign out I want to put up some other friends with kick ass blogs..

////DJ Clavé and some buddies' new blog for all your electro/house/dubstep needs: soundofmyshoes.com
////Homeboys back from the high school got on their hip hop blog/production grind recently and the results are in: kidsonclouds.tumblr.com
////Last, but not nearly least, buddy Gabriel's blog via chicago. Interesting and entertaining. What more could you want? gabrielherrerra.tumblr.com

It's been a good run. Thanks for all the many hits and feedback over the 14 months. Special shout out to all those international viewers. Those who i'm not up with on fb follow me on the twitter for upcoming qlifecrisis.com updates... and all the other fun and goofy shit.

I was thinking about posting a few last songs but you'll just have to wait for the next blog. Going to keep it humble, call it quits  and end it with this fitting farewell song:

Controversy

Eyyyy everybody, sorry for the hiatus, i've been busy as a bee with school and stupid shit like that. But hey whatever I'm back hope you're still with meh. The homeboyo Emmanuel Mauleon recently dropped this bomb of a mix called "Controversy." Press download... then play, and let this funk/soul/disco/hiphop/jazzflute/blahblahblah inspired mix help you reign in the pending spring. holy FUCK i need some warm weather. Seasonal depression what upppppppp. Enjoy

Download: Emmanuel Mauleon- Controversy Mix

Given the fact that I haven't posted in over a week, I probably owe a liiittle bit more than one track but  they'll come. Thought I would add this track to all you lookin to dance this evening.. don't know why you wouldn't? New duck sauce remix (haven't even heard the original?) Anyways it's... Download: Duck Sauce- Good 2 Me (Louis La Roche Re-Edit)
(if you don't wait until 1:30 for the drop, don't bother listening at all)

//AND THIS CALLS FOR A P.S.\\
Sooooo OFWGKTA popped the FUCK off in the last week? Since getting shown/gettin blown away by Earl Sweatshirt last spring... to finally posting them last week... to Tyler, The Creator selling out shows on East coast... to Pusha T tweeting @fucktyler... to Kanye West tweeting @fucktyler the yonkers video? Hitting 1 mil on itunes... To them getting a segment on MTV news? To denying XXL mag's offer to be in the freshman class? Damn. Cam.  Dudes went from promoting their music on hypebeast message boards to getting their  Jimmy Fallon performance playing Sandwitches featured on hypebeast.................... Respect.

These dudes just changed the game and wrote the book on blowin up by getting on their grind and doo doo dooing whatever the fuck they want. It's the modern american dream. Neo Horror-core, 5-minutes of fame, call it whatever the fuck you want it's coming from a genuine place. Thrivers take note: being original, finding a niche, not giving a shit about the rules, staying ambitious, and using as many forms of media to push your shit in a quality and creative way pays off// shock factor of filming your crew putting a bunch of drugs in a blender in LA and eating cockroaches helps too. That's my take. The MTV article is good. Let's see what these fuckers do next...

ODD FUTURE

Bare witness: these dudes are finally taking off.. So take note. Restoring the faith one vid at a time. Prepare yourself. No one's gone this hard so uniquely since Big L; Cannibal Ox. So fucking refreshing to see dudes pushing the envelope and doing so in daring but creative ways. And no doubt they're talented on top of it all. The new single, Yonkers should give you a good idea of the go to sound Ty and his crew, OFWGKTA are puttin out. And I digs it. The third verse is supposedly spit from Tyler's alter-ego, Wolf Haley. In regards to his gig on Jimmy Fallon's show on the 16th:

“I want to scare the fuck out of old white fucking people that live in Middle fucking America.”

in order of appearance:

& lastly,

yo i'd throw you the link to the new Yonkers single but go get it on HERE, like i did. On that same note...

Went to the Big Gigantic show this weekend and had a fucking blast. I was tentative to drop the $16 but my friend brought up an interesting point. We never buy music anymore. This is the only way people putting shit out are getting paid. And for that i'll throw bones on a show. And  the obvious charges that go with it...

All right I'm going out #mondaynight. The Yonkers single got me too stoked. SO to @KEVINBASSEY puttin me on to this shiiiiiiiiiii a while ago #twitterstakingovermylife @molefacekillah

A quickie with The Knocks!

This song was in my head all over break. Please allow it to enter your head and let's cut a rug to it tonight ya huuurrrd?? Definitely one of my top 50 from '10. Fuck it, top 20. Top 10?

And speaking of The Knocks... they killed this remix. I listened to this like everyday a couple summers ago in Afreeka.

Have a good thuuursday errybody. Stay safe and go to class tomorrow.

Lastly, this is pretty amazing:

[insert hot new hip hop here]

I haven't listened to much hip hop lately. Nothing new has really caught my eye. I guess these tracks helped change that. I'm leaving some out, like that new Premier song was tight, but i honestly just find KRS One so obnoxious at this point (impressions upon request). And that new kanye/Jay-Z single... a liittle underwhelming.. expecting big things of that album though. Aaaanyways, I'm all over these...

UNO:

I was liiiike, did madlib produce this? And then I was liiiike nope, it sounds more like his younger brother-- Oh No. I've posted Oh No before, thinking I need to do more. Actually, I've posted Jean Grae too. Jean Grae could not only kick your ass, but slay this track, and she does...

Download: Talib Kweli- Uh Oh (ft. Jean Grae)

UNO (PT. TWO):

Speaking of Talib, and the Madlib family, here's a stellar throwback track from these two on their 2007 collabo album, Liberation. This might be one of my favorite madlib beats and that might be saying something worth taking note of. Wooooh lordy lord, that sample tho...

Download: Talib Kweli & Madlib- What Can I Do

DOS:

This isn't that new but honestly, commercial rap hasn't sounded this good since......... circa Hood Nigga- Gorilla Zoe. This shit makes me want to get drunk and lift weights , rob a walgreens at gunpoint, poor hot coffee on my crotch and take a big dump all at the same time. Get at me this weekend, Dorrough.

Download: Dorrough- Get Big (ft. Tipsy) <--link lasted one day before they got me. stay up!!

TRES:

New Fool's Gold with Gucci off Kid Sister's upcoming mixtape? On an old school breakbeat? Sounds like a match made in the purgatory, but hey guess what? It's freshhh. It's all over the place but honestly, what the fuck isn't? Welcome to the age we live in. BOOM.  Dub remix?

P.S.
To twitter, or not to twitter... never thought I'd say this, but if you want post updates and pertinent comments so witty they're nauseating....

Is 6pm too late to take a nap? Not when we got to rest up for DJ Clave tonight at the KK everybody. These two may or may not be there...

Before & After Pt. 3

yoooooooooooooooo, so sorry for the hiatus. I've been super fuggin busy, moving back, working, reassessing my life... bull shit like that. Remember those before & after sampled songs posts? No? well you should consider going to looking them up... in the mean time, here's a new one. BOOM BAP.

ONE: SLING THE DUTCHIE
I posted a great Star Slinger song a while ago and now I've got another one. But he couldn't fool me this time... Pass the Dutchie by Youth Generation? Ever seen the video? Ready or not....

BEFORE:

AFTER:
Here the slinger does another nice chop job and makes this a nice little banger for my thurstday ya digg?

Download: Star Slinger- Pass the Dutchie

TWO: HELLO IT'S ME//IF YOU WANT IT
.... Do it like TV Girl did. I posted this right when I got it a few posts ago. So happy i have an excuse to do so again. The incorporation of sampling and pseudo hip hop beats in indie music has really popped off in the last couple years-- what with the passion pits and neon indian induced chill wave craze. But I must say, I haven't heard any group do it quite this exquisitely. Props, bros.

BEFORE:
I don't know what's better the song or the introduction? Or his outfit?

AFTER:

Download: TV Girl- If You Want It

THREE: ZE HIP HÓP...

My boy evan aka éban aka erg aka mirg aka DJ xplore (yes ladies, producer of the Morse Code Remix) found yet again another obscure sample (one to add on to his already prestigious record). This one comes in the form of an old reggae tune. I posted this classic track way back in one of my first few posts evurr. Still sounds fresh as heeeell though. And now we've got some context..... Betty Wright 1971, go!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I can't find a good version for a sample hearing. Just put a little fait in me and download it. It's one of my favorite songs. AND Nas is on it. I thought you loved Nas, baby?
Download: Ms. Dynamite- Di-Na-Mi-Tee (ft. Nas)

Sorry this post isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Blogspot fucking blows. But this doesn't:

A Swedish Dichotomy

The M.F.K. sleuthing agency strikes again...

My brother recently showed me this music video (released several months ago) from Thieves Like Us for their fabuloso song, Shyness. The clips used and edited up (pretty well, I thought)  in the video are from the film, A Swedish Love Story (Roy Andersson, 1970).....

But the plot thickens! A couple months ago, Diamond Messages released the video for their fabuloso song, Liquid Summer. I don't know if this is a complete coincidence, your standard bite, or they contracted the same video guy and he's pullin' a fast one... but I was pretty surprised to see not only use of the same film, but a pretty similar selection of clips as well.

Either way, it's interesting to note the way in which the similar array of shots can evoke very different feelings, captivate in unique ways blah blah blah, given the difference in the two songs' sounds and vibes. I won't say which I liked more. Check them out:

Download: Thieves Like Us- Shyness

Download: Diamond Messages- Liquid Summer

Tried tracking this up on Netflix with no avail. Pretty sure I am in love with that Swedish girl.

Año Nuevo

Hope everyones recovering well from the weekend. I'm still debating whether or not I should do some sort of year end lists. Would anyone be trying to navigate through something like that? Your radar's probably blowing up with lists though so why saturate the game? Maybe I'll just hook it up with a big ass zip file or something. In the mean time, add these to the new year's playlist...

¡UN!

To be honest, I've been kinda off my grind lately. However, i did come across this little gem. This is off the Swede's mixtape: Kills. Not a mash up, just a savvy sampling job with some haunting vocals to match. Def caught me off guard in the best way possiblé. Oh so very dope.

Download: jj- Still (Dr. Dre)

¡DEAUX!

I meant to post this last spring. Maybe I did? But I set my itunes alarm today and the shuffle gods played this. Killer vocals funky bassline blah blah blah

Download: RJD2- The Shining Path (Alan Wilkis Remix)

¡TROIS!

I just reacquainted myself with this tune from '07. Couldn't help but play it the other night when it was my turn to be youtube-party-dj (along with the jj). Used to be quite the jam and still is. I might go as far to say it's Premier's sickest beat........ whooooopsies there it is I said it... Or at least the funkiest. I'm showing the video because the beginning shows him craftin' the bitch on the MPC. Classic shiiiit.

Download: DJ Premier- Classic (ft. Raekwon, Kanye, Nas, KRS-One

¡QUATRE!

This is the point in a post when I debate posting none, 1, or 3 more songs.... I'm going to resist the urge and end it with this one. Came out relatively recently-- whaddayaknow, another banger off Ed Banger Records. Classic case of finding a sick loop and crafting a song around it. Cassius did a very fucking admirable job. Peep the dubstep remix too. This vid's too cool not to put up either...

Download: Cassius- I Love You So

Hope to see you around. Be back soon, I'm going to start getting going on my new year's resolution. Boom.
