This song was in my head all over break. Please allow it to enter your head and let's cut a rug to it tonight ya huuurrrd?? Definitely one of my top 50 from '10. Fuck it, top 20. Top 10?
I haven't listened to much hip hop lately. Nothing new has really caught my eye. I guess these tracks helped change that. I'm leaving some out, like that new Premier song was tight, but i honestly just find KRS One so obnoxious at this point (impressions upon request). And that new kanye/Jay-Z single... a liittle underwhelming.. expecting big things of that album though. Aaaanyways,I'm all over these...
UNO:
I was liiiike, did madlib produce this? And then I was liiiike nope, it sounds more like his younger brother-- Oh No. I've posted Oh No before, thinking I need to do more. Actually, I've posted Jean Grae too. Jean Grae could not only kick your ass, but slay this track, and she does...
Speaking of Talib, and the Madlib family, here's a stellar throwback track from these two on their 2007 collabo album, Liberation. This might be one of my favorite madlib beats and that might be saying something worth taking note of. Wooooh lordy lord, that sample tho...
This isn't that new but honestly, commercial rap hasn't sounded this good since......... circa Hood Nigga- Gorilla Zoe. This shit makes me want to get drunk and lift weights , rob a walgreens at gunpoint, poor hot coffee on my crotch and take a big dump all at the same time. Get at me this weekend, Dorrough.
Download: Dorrough- Get Big (ft. Tipsy) <--link lasted one day before they got me. stay up!!
TRES:
New Fool's Gold with Gucci off Kid Sister's upcoming mixtape? On an old school breakbeat? Sounds like a match made in the purgatory, but hey guess what? It's freshhh. It's all over the place but honestly, what the fuck isn't? Welcome to the age we live in. BOOM. Dub remix?
yoooooooooooooooo, so sorry for the hiatus. I've been super fuggin busy, moving back, working, reassessing my life... bull shit like that. Remember those before & after sampled songs posts? No? well you should consider going to looking them up... in the mean time, here's a new one. BOOM BAP.
ONE: SLING THE DUTCHIE I posted a great Star Slinger song a while ago and now I've got another one. But he couldn't fool me this time... Pass the Dutchie by Youth Generation? Ever seen the video? Ready or not....
TWO: HELLO IT'S ME//IF YOU WANT IT .... Do it like TV Girl did. I posted this right when I got it a few posts ago. So happy i have an excuse to do so again. The incorporation of sampling and pseudo hip hop beats in indie music has really popped off in the last couple years-- what with the passion pits and neon indian induced chill wave craze. But I must say, I haven't heard any group do it quite this exquisitely. Props, bros.
BEFORE: I don't know what's better the song or the introduction? Or his outfit?
My boy evan aka éban aka erg aka mirg aka DJ xplore (yes ladies, producer of the Morse Code Remix) found yet again another obscure sample (one to add on to his already prestigious record). This one comes in the form of an old reggae tune. I posted this classic track way back in one of my first few posts evurr. Still sounds fresh as heeeell though. And now we've got some context..... Betty Wright 1971, go!

AFTER:
I can't find a good version for a sample hearing. Just put a little fait in me and download it. It's one of my favorite songs. AND Nas is on it. I thought you loved Nas, baby?
My brother recently showed me this music video (released several months ago) from Thieves Like Us for their fabuloso song, Shyness. The clips used and edited up (pretty well, I thought) in the video are from the film, A Swedish Love Story (Roy Andersson, 1970).....
But the plot thickens! A couple months ago, Diamond Messages released the video for their fabuloso song, Liquid Summer. I don't know if this is a complete coincidence, your standard bite, or they contracted the same video guy and he's pullin' a fast one... but I was pretty surprised to see not only use of the same film, but a pretty similar selection of clips as well.
Either way, it's interesting to note the way in which the similar array of shots can evoke very different feelings, captivate in unique ways blah blah blah, given the difference in the two songs' sounds and vibes. I won't say which I liked more. Check them out:
Hope everyones recovering well from the weekend. I'm still debating whether or not I should do some sort of year end lists. Would anyone be trying to navigate through something like that? Your radar's probably blowing up with lists though so why saturate the game? Maybe I'll just hook it up with a big ass zip file or something. In the mean time, add these to the new year's playlist...
¡UN!
To be honest, I've been kinda off my grind lately. However, i did come across this little gem. This is off the Swede's mixtape: Kills. Not a mash up, just a savvy sampling job with some haunting vocals to match. Def caught me off guard in the best way possiblé. Oh so very dope.
I meant to post this last spring. Maybe I did? But I set my itunes alarm today and the shuffle gods played this. Killer vocals funky bassline blah blah blah
I just reacquainted myself with this tune from '07. Couldn't help but play it the other night when it was my turn to be youtube-party-dj (along with the jj). Used to be quite the jam and still is. I might go as far to say it's Premier's sickest beat........ whooooopsies there it is I said it... Or at least the funkiest. I'm showing the video because the beginning shows him craftin' the bitch on the MPC. Classic shiiiit.
This is the point in a post when I debate posting none, 1, or 3 more songs.... I'm going to resist the urge and end it with this one. Came out relatively recently-- whaddayaknow, another banger off Ed Banger Records. Classic case of finding a sick loop and crafting a song around it. Cassius did a very fucking admirable job. Peep the dubstep remix too. This vid's too cool not to put up either...
